Adult Education
The Talmud teaches:
Rabbi Tarfon and the Elders were once reclining in the upper story of Nithza’s house, in Lod, when this question was posed to them: Which is greater, study or action? Rabbi Tarfon answered, saying: Action is greater. Rabbi Akiva answered, saying: Study is greater. All the rest agreed with Akiva that study is greater than action because it leads to action.
At Temple B’nai Sholom, we believe that learning about our sacred tradition and discovering its relevance for us today allows us to live our Jewish lives with meaning and purpose.
TORAH STUDY
Congregants of all ages and interests discuss the weekly Torah portion, bringing their own ideas as well as those of various Torah commentators to the table. All are welcome and no advance knowledge or preparation is needed to participate. Torah texts are provided.
Through December, we will study Torah through the lens of Mussar, a long-standing tradition of exploring Jewish ethics with a particular focus on character formation.
